Akavia ben Mahalalel

Akavia ben Mahalalel was a leading sage during the final era of Zugot in the same generation as Hillel and Shammai. Once he degraded Shmaya and Avtalyon and he was placed in excommunication. Akavia ben Mahalalel argued with the Sages on four different Halachas. They enticed him retract his opinion and they would apoint him as Av Beis Din, to which he replied that he would rather be called a fool his entire life then be wicked infront of Hashem even for a moment. At his deathbed he requested from his son that he side with the rest of the sages.

Teachings

Look at three things and you will not come to sin. Know you came from, where you are going, and before whom you are destined to give a judgement and accounting. From where you came--from a putrid drop; where you are going--to a place of dust, maggots and worms; and before whom you are destined to give a judgement and accounting--before the supreme King of Kings, the Holy One, blessed be He.

Akavia ben Mahalalel is buried in Achbara right next to Admon. There is a dispute regarding the exact location between Yisroel Meir Gabbai / Ohali Tzadikim and Kadmonanue.
