Rebbe Chiya was one of the main students of Rabbi Shimon Bar Yochai and is often mentioned in the Zohar. He participated in both the Idra Rabba and Idra Zuta.
After the passing of Rebbe Shimon he fasted 40 days to see him. He was then told this was not sufficient. Rebbe Chiya fasted another 40 days and then merited to see his teacher.
