His main teacher was Rabbi Akiva and he was active in the generation following the Bar Cochva rebellion. Rabbi Eliezer ben Rabbi Yossi Haglili is mentioned only once in the Mishna, although he is mentioned in numerous Brisos throughout the Talmud and Midrashim. | − | Rabbi Eliezer is buried in the outskirts of the village Dalton in North Israel, at the foot of the mountain containing the tomb of his father [[Rabbi Yossi Haglili|Rabbi Yossi]]. There is an opinion that his brother [[Rabbi Shmuel ben Rabbi Yossi Haglili|Rabbi Shmuel]] is buried in a cave half way down the mountain. Right across the road from Rabbi Eliezer is the kever of [[Hillel Nesiah|Hillel the Amora]]. In a number of sources and even on the Kever itself, it is attributed to a Rabbi Yishmoel ben Rabbi Yossi. However Rabbi Yossi Haglili had no son mentioned in any sources by this name, although [[Rabbi Yossi ben Chalafta|Rabbi Yossi ben Chalafta]] did. Since all early pilgrims to tomb even those that attributed the grave to a 'Rabbi Yishmoel' state that he is a son of Rabbi Yossi Haglili who is buried above, it has been accepted that some people mistakenly listed Rabbi Yishmoel instead of Rabbi Eliezer.
