Rabbi Shimon Shizuri was fourth generation tana and a student of Rabbi Tarfon, originating from the village of Shazur. He was friends with Rabbi Shimon, Rabbi Yehuda, Rabbi Meir and Rabbi Yosi. Rabbi Shimon Shizuri came from a wealthy family that lost all its money since they allowed their livestock to graze in the fields of others and arbitrated monetary rulings in front of single judges.

Rabbi Shimon Shizuri is buried in ancient Shazur which is now called Sajur, a village currently occupied by Druzim and Arabs. He is buried right near Rabbi Shimon ben Elazar and in the vicinity of Rabbi Yishmoel Kohen Gadol.
