'''Rav Hamnuna Saba''' was a Second and Third generation Amora and a student of Rav, giving over many of his teachings throughout the Talmud. He was well liked by his teacher who called him 'my son'. When Rav passed away, most of his students in the Sura Yeshiva went to study by Shmuel. There was a group that remained in Sura, however they did not appoint a Rosh Misivta out of respect for Shmuel. Rav Hamnuna Saba was the elder of this group and served as its unofficial leader. This group is referenced in the Talmud as 'Amri Bi Rav' - the 'Beis Medrash of Rav said' and it is always referring to Rav Hamnuna Saba. He held this position until Rav Huna assumed Rav's place.

Rav Hamnuna Saba is buried in a cave right past Meron on the side of the highway. There is a large parking lot there and one must climb a series of steps to reach the kever. Kever Rav Hamnuna Saba the Amora is not to be confused with Kever Rav Hamnuna Saba from the Zohar who is buried in Tiberias in the Tomb of Rabbi Chiya, as well as Kever Rav Hamnuna the Third, an Amora from the next generation that is buried in Meoras Habavlim in Alma.
