Rav Kahana was a first generation Amora and a student of Rav. After killing an informer in Bavel, Rav Kahana escaped to Eretz Yisroel at the advice of Rav who also told him that he must refrain from from entering into a Talmudic argument with Rebbe Yochanan until seven years after his arrival.

Despite his name, Rav Kahana was not a Cohen.

Marriage
Rav Kahana married the daughter of a Kohen. He later blamed this as the cause for his exile. Although he relocated from Bavel to Eretz Yisroel, a place of Torah, Rav Kahana still considered it an exile due to the circumstances that forced him to move out of fear of being killed by the government.

Kever Rav Kahana
Rav Kahana is buried in Tiberias. Traditionally his tomb was marked as being in a cave above the Holiday Inn now Rimonim Hotel, a 3-4 minutes walk from the Kever of the Amora Rav Yirmiyah. Yisroel Meir Gabbi and Ohali Tzadikim say that based on their research of descriptions from early visits to the location, this cave is instead the burial place of the Amoraim Rabbi Ammi and Rabbi Assi, while Rav Kahana himself is buried in the small courtyard adjacent to the Kever of Rabbi Yochanan ben Zakkai.
