Rabbi Shimon ben Elazar was a fifth generation Tana and a leading student of Rabbi Meir. He is only mentioned a few times in the Mishna but numerous times in the Tosefta, Brisos and Talmud.

Rabbi Shimon ben Elazar is buried in ancient Shazur which is now called Sajur, a village currently occupied by Druzim and Arabs. He is buried right near Rabbi Shimon Shizuri and in the vicinity of Rabbi Yishmoel Kohen Gadol.
In the room underneath the Ashkanazi Beis Medrash of Kever Rebbe Meir Baal Haness there is a tomb marked as kever Rebbe Meir Baal Haness. There are no sources for this location and the correct tomb is in Shazur.
